Haryana Congress leaders on Monday staged a protest march to the Vidhan Sabha, reiterating the party’s charge of “vote theft” against the BJP and the Election Commission.
Led by former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Haryana Congress President Chaudhary Udaibhan, all Congress MLAs strongly protested against alleged vote theft. They raised slogans of “Vote Chor, Gaddi Chhod.” Talking to reporters, Hooda said Rahul Gandhi’s revelations had made it clear that the BJP did not win in Haryana, but instead “stole” the Congress government.
Hooda alleged that the Election Commission had lost its credibility and in Haryana it worked entirely at the behest of the BJP. This is the reason that the voting, which was to be held on October 1 in the state, took place on October 5. At that time also, the Congress had expressed doubts on the intent and working style of the Election Commission and had opposed the postponement of the date, he added.
He pointed out that exit polls had shown a Congress victory, yet on October 7, the Chief Minister held a press conference claiming that all arrangements had been made for the BJP’s win.
Even after 50 hours of voting, the data changed two to three times at different times and just 12 hours before the result, a sudden increase of 2.5 per cent in votes was shown. District-wise and assembly-wise data about this has been kept in the report of the investigation committee headed by Karan Singh Dalal.
He also said during the counting process, it was observed that many EVMs showed 99 per cent battery charge. A complaint was made to the Election Commission, but it was ignored, and no proper answer has been given till date. In Rania, the Commission even deleted the EVM data instead of conducting a recount, despite a court order.
Responding to journalists’ questions, Hooda said the Election Commission, which was now demanding an affidavit from Rahul Gandhi, should first give an affidavit itself. “The Election Commission should give in writing that there are no fake voters or that one person has two votes. If the Commission gives in writing, we are ready to give it countless proofs” he said.
He added, “The Commission is asking for an affidavit from Rahul Gandhi to cover up its misdeeds, while the public has understood that the Commission is completely working like a team of the BJP. This is a dangerous situation for the democracy of the country, because democracy will remain strong only when all constitutional institutions work independently.”
