Himachal Pradesh Police have contacted their counterparts in Punjab and Rajasthan to find out the source of several balloons carrying PIA (Pakistan International Airlines) markings or the Pakistani flag print that have been spotted in different districts of the state over the past few weeks.
Police have also approached officials of the Indian Air Force to seek inputs on the matter.
“So far, no suspicious items such as gadgets, surveillance devices, trackers or other materials have been found inside these balloons. We have contacted police in states bordering Pakistan, where similar balloons were found, to understand their origin and get more information,” police said.
Although no FIR has been registered yet, police are continuing to investigate the matter. Local shopkeepers and vendors are also being questioned to trace where the balloons may have come from.
Recently, residents of Chalet village under the Daulatpur police post were alarmed after an aeroplane-shaped balloon with ‘PIA’ written on it was found on the roof of a villager’s house.
The villager immediately informed the Daulatpur police post. After receiving the information, a police team reached the spot and seized the balloon. As a precaution, police also searched the nearby area to ensure that no other suspicious objects were present.
Earlier, on December 8, three similar balloons were found in Tatehra village of the Gagret sub-division. These balloons had the Pakistani flag printed on them along with the words “I Love Pakistan”.
Similar balloons have also been recovered in Hamirpur and Kangra districts during the past few months, police said.
