Himachal Pradesh PWD Minister Vikramaditya Singh on Monday asserted that the next Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC) president should be a strong mass leader and not merely a rubber stamp.
Speaking to the mediapersons, Vikramaditya Singh said, “Naming the Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC) president is the prerogative of the party high command. The person chosen should be a mass leader of stature. It would be detrimental to the party’s interests if the responsibility is given to someone who is merely a rubber stamp.”
His remarks come amid uncertainty over whether current HPCC president Pratibha Singh — who is also his mother — will be given another term, as her tenure has already concluded.
While he reiterated that the final decision lies with the All-India Congress Committee (AICC), he underlined the importance of appointing a dynamic leader capable of strengthening the party at the grassroots level.
Reports suggest that the names of some first-time MLAs are being considered for the position. He also urged the AICC to reconstitute the HPCC at the earliest, pointing out that it has been over six months since the state unit was dissolved.
