The disappearance of Chief Engineer Vimal Negi from Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board Limited (HPSEBL), who was currently posted in Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (HPPCL), has raised serious concerns.
Negi has been missing since 1:30 pm on March 10, prompting the Joint Front of HPSEBL Employees and Engineers to appeal to Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu for an immediate inquiry into the incident and full support for his family in locating him.
In a formal letter to the Chief Minister, Forum Convener Lokesh Thakur highlighted that Negi had reportedly been struggling with a hostile and toxic work environment at HPPCL. Thakur urged the government to launch a detailed inquiry to uncover the circumstances leading to his disappearance.
He also called for an investigation into all cases handled by Negi’s office to ensure that he was not under pressure to approve any unlawful or illicit documents benefiting the management.

The letter further emphasised the need for an employee-friendly approach in HPSEBL, pointing out that a climate of fear and uncertainty has taken root within the organisation due to recent measures introduced under the pretext of rationalisation.
Thakur stressed that human resources are the most vital asset of any organisation, and for Himachal Power Sector Utilities to compete with the best in India and globally, employee morale and work-life balance must be prioritised.
The incident has triggered widespread concern among employees, and calls for transparency and accountability in HPPCL’s operations continue to grow. The situation remains tense as authorities work to trace Negi’s whereabouts.
