The Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) Employees' Union held a protest and gate meeting at the Hamirpur bus stand on Friday. The union warned that bus services could be affected after June 24 if its demands are not addressed.
State HRTC Employees' Union president Man Singh Thakur attended the protest. Employees voiced their anger over delays in the payment of salaries, allowances and other pending benefits.
During the meeting, union members appealed to the HRTC management and the state government to resolve their issues at the earliest. Protesters also raised slogans against the government and the corporation.
Union leaders said they would intensify their agitation if no action is taken on their demands in the coming days.
Employee unions across Himachal Pradesh have recently warned of a statewide protest over delayed salaries and unpaid arrears. They have cautioned that bus operations could be disrupted after midnight on June 24.
Thakur said a memorandum had been submitted to Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu last month seeking immediate resolution of employees' issues. However, he said no progress has been made so far, leading to growing resentment among the workforce. He added that an installment of pending arrears is yet to be released.
The union has also prepared a 15-point charter of demands, which includes issues related to uniforms, food allowances and other employee benefits.
