Elon Musk’s Starlink, the satellite internet venture of SpaceX, is gearing up for a major expansion in India and Hyderabad has been chosen as one of the nine strategic gateway earth station locations, alongside Mumbai, Noida, Chandigarh, Kolkata, and Lucknow.
This move further strengthens Hyderabad’s position as a critical hub in India’s digital and space technology landscape, adding another global name to the city’s growing list of high-impact technology investments, the officials said.
According to the India expansion roadmap, Starlink’s nine gateway earth stations will serve as vital infrastructure to connect its low-Earth-orbit satellite network with ground-based internet systems, enabling high-speed, low-latency satellite internet across the country. These stations will be the backbone of Starlink’s services, ensuring seamless connectivity between rural and urban India.
With its world-class infrastructure, skilled workforce, and proactive policies, Hyderabad has become a natural choice for global companies like Starlink. The city’s strong ecosystem for telecom innovation, AI, and space technology makes it a perfect fit for next-generation communication infrastructure.
This development follows Hyderabad’s recent success in attracting major Global Capability Centres (GCCs) from global corporations like American Airlines, Southwest Airlines, Apple, and Microsoft, positioning the city as India’s new-age technology capital.
Starlink’s India initiative aims to deliver high-speed satellite internet by late 2025 or early 2026, targeting underserved and remote regions where terrestrial broadband remains limited. By setting up one of its gateway stations in Hyderabad, Starlink is reinforcing the city’s strategic importance in India’s space-tech-driven connectivity revolution.
As Starlink begins testing and compliance processes in India, Hyderabad’s inclusion underscores its reputation as a secure, innovation-driven, and globally trusted destination for advanced communication infrastructure.
This marks yet another milestone in Hyderabad’s journey toward becoming a central node in India’s digital transformation, from software exports and AI innovation to space and satellite communications.
