IMD forecasts snow and rain in north Bengal hills

Light rain or snow is expected in parts of Darjeeling and Kalimpong, while dense fog is likely to prevail in isolated pockets of sub-Himalayan West Bengal. The weather conditions will continue until 10 December.

People are enjoying the snowfall at Darjeeling's Mall Road.


Light rain or snow is forecasted for parts of Darjeeling and Kalimpong districts in the coming days, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The weather conditions are expected to persist until 10 December.

 

Dense fog will also affect isolated areas of sub-Himalayan West Bengal, particularly in the late night and early morning hours, the IMD added.

 

These conditions are expected to continue till the 10th of December.

Meanwhile, in the southern districts of West Bengal, including West Midnapore, Jhargram, Purulia, Bankura, Purba and Paschim Bardhaman, Birbhum, Murshidabad, and Nadia, light rain is likely at one or two locations on 9 December.

 

However, the rest of the state is expected to remain dry until 10 December.

The cold wave in the state continues to grip the region. In the last 24 hours, Darjeeling recorded the lowest minimum temperature in the state at 5.6 degrees Celsius, while Kalimpong saw 10.5 degrees Celsius.

 

Purulia, in western Bengal, was the second coldest place, with temperatures dipping to 9.5 degrees Celsius.

In contrast, Kolkata recorded a minimum temperature of 16.5 degrees Celsius, with the IMD forecasting a slight drop in the mercury on Sunday morning.
