The regional centre of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Chennai issued a weather warning on Saturday, forecasting rain, light thunderstorms, and lightning across several districts in Tamil Nadu. The department predicted light to moderate rainfall at a few locations, including Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, and Nagapattinam, as well as the Karaikal area.
According to the IMD, the expected weather conditions could cause waterlogging and make roads slippery in certain areas, potentially leading to traffic disruptions. By 1:00 PM, the forecast also suggested that districts such as Theni, Tenksasi, Ramanathapuram, and Kanyakumari might experience light to moderate rain.
The IMD further issued a warning of heavy rainfall in parts of seven districts in Tamil Nadu. On Friday night, heavy rain in Tiruppur district led to water entering homes, prompting local authorities to focus on draining the excess water. The Tiruppur north area recorded 11 cm of rainfall, while the Kozhiporvilai station in Kanyakumari recorded 19 cm. Several other stations in Erode, Coimbatore, Nilgiris, and Theni recorded between 8 to 9 cm of rain.

In the Ramanathapuram district, Rameswaram recorded 7 cm, while coastal areas like Kadaladi, Mudukulatur, Mandapam, Tondi, and Pamban saw varying amounts of rainfall, ranging from 1 to 5 cm.
On Friday, rainfall was reported at many locations across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, the Karaikal area, and Kerala. It also extended to the Lakshadweep area, Interior Karnataka, Rayalaseema, and Telangana, with coastal Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh receiving showers at a few places.
In terms of temperature, the IMD noted that maximum temperatures were generally lower than normal. In Tamil Nadu, temperatures were below average by 2 to 5°C at a few locations, while in Kerala, the drop was between 1 to 2°C. In Telangana, temperatures were 2 to 6°C below normal, and in Interior Karnataka, they were 3 to 6°C lower than usual. However, temperatures in other regions remained close to their usual levels.
The unpredictable weather has caused concern for residents, especially in flood-prone areas, as authorities continue to monitor and manage the situation.
