Scores of Indian Americans gathered at the Milpitas City Hall in Silicon Valley on Sunday to express solidarity with Hindus subjected to violence in Canada and Bangladesh.
The rally, attended by prominent community leaders, called upon US leaders to 'denounce' these acts and hold the respective governments 'accountable' for safeguarding their minority populations.
The Bay Area, which boasts a robust Indian American population exceeding 200,000, witnessed participants raising slogans such as “Stop Khalistani terrorism, protect Canadian-Hindus” and “Stop Islamist terrorism, protect Bangladeshi-Hindus.”
The recent attack on the Hindu Sabha Temple in Brampton, Canada, where Hindu devotees were assaulted by Khalistan supporters, was strongly condemned.
A media release detailed the horrifying scenes of men, women, and children being attacked during Diwali celebrations.
“To make matters worse, we saw that the police were infiltrated by Khalistan supporters who also resorted to violence against Hindu devotees. Freedom of violence is being dressed up as freedom of expression in Canada. We have lost all faith in the Trudeau government in protecting the basic human rights of Canadian-Hindus,” it stated.
Dr Ramesh Japra of Americans for Hindus decried the attacks in Canada and Bangladesh.
“We are one world, one family, one future,” he proclaimed.
Pushpita Prasad from the Coalition of Hindus in North America (CoHNA) voiced concern over her team being targeted by Sikhs for Justice, an organisation banned in India yet operating in Canada and the US.
The rally also addressed the alarming rise in anti-Hindu sentiments in Bangladesh, where temples and community members have faced violence.
The participants appealed to global leaders and organisations to intervene and ensure the safety and dignity of the Hindu minority in these regions.
