A high-level joint team of Union ministries arrived in Jammu division today to review the ground situation in flood-affected areas. The delegation began its tour from Doda and Kishtwar, districts among the worst hit by the recent flash floods and landslides triggered by incessant rains.

Even as the Centre has assured and approved relief fund for rebuilding structures and restarting normal life of the victims, this team has been deputed to take onspot and indepth assessment of damages inflicted by devatating floods in the region.Officials confirmed that the team will assess the ongoing relief and rescue operations, and hold meetings with the district administration, disaster management authorities, and agencies engaged in restoring connectivity and essential services. The members are also scheduled to interact directly with flood victims, taking stock of their immediate needs and grievances.

“The Centre is closely monitoring the situation. The ministerial team’s visit is aimed at ensuring coordinated relief efforts and identifying areas where additional support is required,” an official source said. After completing the Doda-Kishtwar leg, the team will move to Poonch and Rajouri tomorrow. Both border districts have witnessed significant damages to roads, bridges, and residential houses, with many families displaced. The delegation’s on-ground inspection will help finalize rehabilitation measures and long-term strategies for restoration.

The officials are preparing a comprehensive report based on field visits and interactions. The report will be submitted to the Union Home Minister in New Delhi. It is expected to include recommendations for enhanced central assistance, strengthening disaster preparedness, and expediting rehabilitation packages for affected families. The exercise underscores the Centre’s commitment to extend all possible support to Jammu and Kashmir during this crisis. Local authorities have been instructed to extend full cooperation and share real-time data with the visiting team.

The visit has raised hopes among flood victims that their concerns will be addressed promptly and that the Centre will announce additional relief measures soon.Meanwhile, an advanced survey team from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Wednesday arrived in Jammu to assess the rain, flood, and landslide-affected areas and prepare a detailed report on the damage caused, officials said.

The team’s visit follows directions from Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who has asked the ministry to leverage data analytics and artificial intelligence in its assessment.

The IMD and NDMA have been tasked with examining the link between cloudbursts in the Jammu division and moisture content in clouds, identifying root causes, and setting up an early warning system. Shah also stressed the need for a critical review of all Early Warning Apps (EWAs), their accuracy, and their outreach to the grassroots level.
