An interfaith couple, who checked into a hotel in Haveri district of Karnataka, were assaulted by a group of men. Six people allegedly barged into the room and verbally abused and thrashed the couple.
The incident, which took place on January 7, came to light after the victims lodged a complaint with the police and narrated the entire trial.
The inter-faith couple were married. After assaulting them inside the room, the couple was dragged out of the lodge by the group and were attacked again.
On Monday night, a video of a couple being beaten went viral on social media. After which, the woman’s family lodged a complaint on Wednesday.
As per the information received from the police, those identified as accused are locals who somehow managed to get the information of an interfaith couple booking a room. And they carried out the incident. They are, reportedly, not known to be associated with any organisation.
It is also found that the miscreants made a video of the woman, while they were assaulting her.
The Superintendent of Police Anshu Kumar said: “We are trying to find those accused. In a couple of days, we will make further arrests and three to four people will be nabbed.”
Kumar, further, added: “As per the victim’s ordeal, we will add sections of kidnapping, assault on a woman, playing with her modesty and also attempt to murder. Two people have been arrested in the case.”
