In a big relief to the AIP which has been seeking this move for some time, Delhi High Court has granted interim bail to Baramulla MP Engineer Rashid to allow him to meet his critically ill father.
A division bench comprising Justice Prathiba M Singh and Justice Madhu Jain allowed Rashid to either remain in the hospital or residence where his father is located, in presence of atleast two police officials in plain clothes.
The Court noted that admittedly, Rashid is a member of Parliament and was earlier permitted to file nominations, campaigning and attend the parliament sessions in custody parole. Hailing the decision, AIP Chief Spokesperson Inam Un Nabi said the court order reflects a balance between law and humanity, describing it as a “timely and sensitive intervention” that strengthens public trust in the judiciary.
He said the decision has brought relief not only to the family of the MP but also to those closely following the matter, adding that “judicial wisdom ensures humanity is not lost in procedural rigidity.”
Inam Un Nabi stated that the ruling reinforces the belief that courts are not only interpreters of law but also protectors of human values and dignity. He further said that allowing an elected representative to meet his ailing father highlights the compassionate side of justice, calling it a reminder that democratic institutions must remain sensitive to human suffering.
The court is said to have considered humanitarian grounds while passing the order, noting the serious health condition of Rashid’s father. The interim relief will enable him to spend time with his family during this critical period.
Engineer Rashid, who has been in custody in connection with an ongoing case, will be released temporarily under specific conditions set by the court. He is expected to surrender before authorities once the bail period ends.
