At least twelve people were injured when a passenger bus struck the lining of the Navyug Tunnel and overturned in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ramban district late on Wednesday night, according to officials.
The bus, which was travelling from Jammu to Srinagar, was attempting to avoid a collision when it hit the wall of the Qazigund-Banihal tunnel and overturned.
“Twelve persons sustained injuries and have been shifted to Qazigund hospital for treatment,” an official said.
Police, the Army, and local residents carried out the rescue operation.
Earlier on Monday, three tourists from Maharashtra and their local driver lost their lives when the taxi they were travelling in collided head-on with a bus at Gund village in the Kangan area on the Srinagar-Sonamarg highway on Sunday.
According to official reports, at least 21 passengers were injured in the accident.
The deceased were identified as Leshia Ashish Pari, Nikki Ashish Pari, and Hetal Ashish Pari from Maharashtra, along with cab driver Faheem Ahmad of Srinagar.

The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital, from where three critically wounded individuals were shifted to Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Srinagar, for advanced treatment.
Officials confirmed that all the injured were in stable condition.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed his condolences in a post on X, stating, “Deeply saddened by the tragic road accident on the highway near Gund, Kangan, which has claimed several lives and left many others injured… My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. Praying for the swift recovery of the injured. Authorities are providing all possible assistance.”
In his condolence message, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said, “I am deeply saddened to learn about the loss of precious lives in a tragic road accident in Ganderbal today. My sincere condolences to the bereaved families in this hour of grief. Praying for the early recovery of the injured.”
