Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary has issued a strong warning to government employees against indulging in political activities or working for a select few individuals while ignoring elected representatives, stating that such conduct may invite strict action.

Speaking to media persons, the Deputy CM said that employees who fail to take Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) on board should remember that MLAs are part of the government and hold constitutional positions.“Employees who indulge in political activities or work for a few selected individuals, and do not take MLAs on board, may face action. MLAs are part of the government and hold constitutional positions,” the Deputy CM said while responding to a question on the suspension of five employees, including two AEEs, one AE, one AE (PM Package), and one JE.

“We are never happy when we take action against an employee, but I want to convey a clear message through you to all employees. Today, Omar Abdullah is in power, and you are part of his government. When honourable MLAs ask you to do something, you must understand that you are working under a constitutional framework,” Choudhary said.

He alleged that some employees were indulging in politics, avoiding coordination with MLAs and the public, and instead aligning themselves with a few selected individuals.“This message is for all such employees. We do not want flatterers. Omar Abdullah wants work, not flattery,” Deputy CM asserted.

Choudhary said that action taken by the government so far has been against “flatterer officers,” while sincere and hardworking officers have been appreciated internally. “We want officers who deliver on the ground,” he added. The Deputy CM also acknowledged the efforts of various departments in recent times, saying that roads were cleared promptly, electricity supply was restored, and work was underway to improve water supply. However, he admitted that shortcomings still exist.“I am not saying everything is 100 percent perfect. There are shortcomings, but the administration is active and responsive. The government stands by the commitment made during elections to remain at the doorstep of the people,” he said.
