I-Day: J&K leads in Gallantry Medals

A total of 1,090 medals will be awarded, including 233 Gallantry Awards, 99 President’s Medals for Distinguished Service, and 758 Medals for Meritorious Service.

J&K leads in Gallantry Medals this I-Day.


Jammu and Kashmir is set to receive the highest number of gallantry medals at this year’s Independence Day celebrations on August 15, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) announced on Thursday.

 

The ministry released the list of recipients for medals across police, fire services, Home Guard, civil defence, and correctional services. The awards include Gallantry Medals, the President’s Medal for Distinguished Service, and the Medal for Meritorious Service.

 

A total of 1,090 medals will be awarded, including 233 Gallantry Awards, 99 President’s Medals for Distinguished Service, and 758 Medals for Meritorious Service.

 

In the police category, 226 officers and personnel have been shortlisted for the Gallantry Medal, 89 will receive the President's Medal for Distinguished Service, and 635 will receive the Medal for Meritorious Service.

 

As per the MHA announcement, the highest number of Gallantry Awards this year has gone to personnel from Jammu and Kashmir, followed by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the Border Security Force (BSF).

 

Fire services personnel will receive 62 medals, including six Gallantry Medals, five President’s Medals for Distinguished Service, and 51 Medals for Meritorious Service.

 

In the Home Guard and Civil Defence category, the honours include one Gallantry Medal, three President’s Medals for Distinguished Service, and 41 Medals for Meritorious Service.

 

Correctional Services personnel will receive 33 medals, where  two officers will be honoured with the President’s Medal for Distinguished Service, while 31 will receive the Medal for Meritorious Service.

 

The Gallantry Awards, along with other honours, are given to personnel showing exemplary courage, dedication, and professionalism in their respective fields.

 

The awards will be distributed on August 15, as the country marks its 79th Independence Day.
