Security forces on Monday busted a militant's hideout in the Kellar area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district, officials said.
An official familiar with the matter told reporters that a joint team of security forces, including 44 RR, 2 Rajput, 34 RR, 14 BN CRPF, and Shopian Police, initiated a joint search operation in the forest belt of the Kellar area.
They said the hideout of “The Resistance Front” outfit, which is believed to be a shadow group of Lashkar-e-Taiba, was busted by a joint team of Shopian police, Army, and CRPF deep inside the forests of Shukroo Keller.
“During the search operation, arms and ammunition and personal use items like blankets, edibles and trunks were recovered,” a senior police officer said.
Subsequently, the joint operation has been widened in the area to track down the militants who were allegedly using the underground hideout.
Security forces have intensified the counter-insurgency operations in the valley to dismantle the terror network, officials said.
He said that, during the search operation, they uncovered a hideout in the Bujbrod Pehlipora forest area. “Cooking utensils and edible items were recovered from the hideout.
Further investigation is underway,” he said.
Meanwhile, in a separate operation, security forces arrested a militant associate in south Kashmir’s Tral area of the Pulwama district.
An official said that security forces launched a search operation in the orchards of Pinglin village about the presence of a militant.
He said during a search operation, a militant was arrested for having links to the proscribed outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba, and a pistol and ammunition were recovered from his possession.
He has been identified as Irshad Ahmad Chopan of Lurgam, Tral. Chopan was allegedly involved in the recent attack on a non-local labourer in Tral last month.
