The Army on Sunday launched a search operation in the Hiranagar town area of Kathua district in Jammu and Kashmir following the suspicious movement of three individuals, officials said.
Addressing the reporters, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kathua Shobhit Saxena said that since Sunday night, a joint operation has been initiated to search the area in collaboration with the Army and special services group of J&K police, along with the CRPF and other agencies.
Apart from the combing operations, drone surveillance is also being done, he said.
“There was some suspected movement. So, we responded within one hour. Since last night, together with the Army, SOG, CRPF, and others, we searched the entire area. Aerial surveillance is also being done. So, let’s see what happens. We had reports about the presence of 3-4 people. We are correlating this; people are being questioned. Search continues,” SSP Kathua said.
In another incident, two police personnel with bullet-ridden bodies were found dead inside a police vehicle in J&K’s Udhampur on Sunday morning, the police said.
“The incident took place at 6:30 am when they were travelling from Sopore towards the training centre in Talwara. Senior police officials rushed to the spot.
The preliminary investigation reveals that an AK-47 rifle was used in the incident. Two police personnel have died. A third police personnel is safe. They will be taken to GMC Udhampur for post-mortem and other procedures,” the Udhampur SSP said.
