The Meteorological Centre in Srinagar has predicted another spell of light to moderate rain and snowfall over Jammu and Kashmir over the next 48 hours.

The MeT office stated that the weather is generally expected to remain cloudy, with the possibility of light rain and snow at isolated places on Sunday.

“There is a possibility of light to moderate rain/snow at most places, while a few higher reaches of North and Central Kashmir may receive moderate to heavy snowfall on 3 March,” the MeT office said.

The weather is expected to remain generally dry from 4 to 9 March, although there is a possibility of another spell of rain and snow from 10 to 12 March, it added.

Further, the weather office has issued advisories urging tourists, travellers, and transporters to follow administrative and traffic advisories during this period.

There is also a possibility of landslides, rockfalls, and shooting stones at vulnerable locations, the MeT office warned, advising people to avoid steep slopes and avalanche-prone areas and to adhere to the DGRE’s avalanche warnings and bulletins.

The highest temperatures across both Jammu and Srinagar have seen significant improvements over the past few days. However, the lowest temperatures have dropped considerably amid the recent snowfall in the upper reaches and popular tourist destinations.

The lowest minimum temperature recorded at Gulmarg was -7.5°C, which was 4.3°C below normal for the ski resort in north Kashmir during this time of the season.

The tourist resort of Pahalgam recorded a low of -4.7°C, 2.7°C below normal for the Valley of Shepherds, while Kupwara registered a low of -1.2°C, which was 2.2°C below normal for the frontier district of north Kashmir.
