Jairam Thakur targets CM Sukhu over Vimal Negi’s mysterious death

Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur.

Leader of Opposition in the Himachal Pradesh Assembly, Jairam Thakur, accused Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu of misleading the public and the House by claiming that the family of deceased HPPCL Chief Engineer Vimal Negi was satisfied with the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe and had not demanded a CBI inquiry.

Speaking to reporters at Reckong Peo following a Tiranga Yatra, the senior BJP leader questioned the chief minister’s statement, asking why Negi’s wife approached the High Court if the family was content with the SIT’s investigation. “If the family was satisfied, why did his wife seek a CBI probe through the court?” Thakur asked.

Negi went missing on March 10, and his body was recovered in Bilaspur on March 18. The next day, his family staged a protest with his body outside the Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (HPPCL) office, demanding a CBI investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.

"Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu repeatedly lied that the family of deceased HPPCL chief engineer Vimal Negi was satisfied with the SIT probe and did not ask for a CBI inquiry," Thakur added.

Thakur further alleged that CM Sukhu had repeated this “false claim” even in the state assembly. He added that following the Himachal Pradesh High Court's decision on Friday to hand over the probe to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), the state government is reportedly considering appealing the order.

Negi’s wife has accused his superiors of subjecting him to mental harassment and misbehavior over a six-month period. She claimed that he was forced to

work late hours despite his ill health, contributing to his death.

In a separate statement, Himachal Pradesh BJP chief Rajiv Bindal blamed the Congress-led state government for the "deteriorating" law and order situation. He said the High Court’s order had exposed attempts to suppress the truth in the Vimal Negi case.
