As  bad weather conditions persist in the region, Directorate of School Education Jammu (DSEJ) Sunday said that all government and private schools across the division shall remain closed on Monday.

 

“In view of the inclement and adverse weather conditions, it is ordered that all Government as well as private schools of Jammu division shall remain closed on Monday,”Pertinently, the meteorological department has issued a weather advisory predicting continued heavy rains and thundershowers, with risks of cloudbursts, flash floods, and landslides in vulnerable areas. ​The move comes as a safety measure to protect students and staff from the inclement weather. The authorities have urged the public to take necessary measures and stay informed about the weather situation.

 

The order has been issued as a precautionary measure to safeguard the students and staff members from the worsening weather conditions. Authorites have also urged the citizens not to venture out and take necessary measures in this weather situation. Students are also advised to connect with school authorities regarding the school holidays.

 

Entire region has been witnessing incessant rains which have triggered landslides and flooding in many parts of the Jammu Division. The government and UT's administrative machinary for the last over one week is battering with cloudburst incidents -first in Kishtwar which took a heavy toll of lives-as many as 65, with many still missing, followed by Katuha tragedy. Even though human loss in the latetr case was not as massive as in Kishtwar, the flash floods have wreaked havoc and the damage is enormous in this district as well. 

 

The government doesn't apparently want to take any chances of mishap with school going children which is why the higher authorities have been asked to keep the educational institutions shut until weather conditions improve. An order issued by Joint Director School Education Jammu reads, “In view of the inclement and bad weather conditions, it is hereby ordered that all government as well as private schools in the Jammu division shall remain closed tomorrow, i.e., 25.08.2025”.
