A 17-year-old student from Uttar Pradesh, who had come to Kota to prepare for engineering entrance examinations, was found dead under mysterious circumstances at his paying guest (PG) accommodation on Wednesday night. According to police, the student, a resident of Sant Kabir Nagar district, had been preparing for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) and had been staying in a PG facility in the Old Rajiv Gandhi Nagar area since February.

Officials stated that the student did not attend his coaching classes on Wednesday afternoon. Later in the night, when his friends returned, they found his room locked from inside. Despite repeated knocks, there was no response.

“Suspecting something was wrong, the students managed to enter the room and found him in a critical condition. He was immediately rushed to a private hospital near Commerce College Circle, where doctors declared him dead,” said Jawaharlal, Assistant Sub-Inspector of Jawahar Nagar police station.

Police believe the incident occurred between 3 pm and 8 pm. Upon receiving information from the hospital, officers reached the spot and shifted the body to the mortuary at MBS Hospital.

Authorities confirmed that no suicide note has been recovered so far, and the exact cause of death remains unknown. The student’s family has been informed, and a post-mortem examination will be conducted after their arrival.

“The room has been sealed and will be opened in the presence of family members. Further investigation is underway to determine the circumstances leading to the incident,” the officer added.

The incident has once again drawn attention to the pressures faced by students in Kota, a major coaching hub that attracts thousands of aspirants each year. Investigators are currently examining all possible angles to ascertain the cause of the student’s death.
