At least 21 inmates of the Correctional Home in Chaibasa, West Singhbhum district of Jharkhand, escaped on Tuesday evening following a violent altercation with security personnel.
The juvenile detainees attacked the guards, vandalised property, and fled the facility.
During the fracas, the inmates reportedly smashed CCTV cameras, chairs, and other items within the correctional home.
According to initial reports, the juveniles first began damaging property and causing an uproar.
They broke furniture and destroyed CCTV equipment before turning their attention to the outer gate.
After repeatedly pushing against it, they managed to break it open and escape.
Security personnel who attempted to intervene were also assaulted.
Upon receiving information about the incident, trainee IPS officer Nikhil Rai, SDPO Bahaman Tuti, SDO Sandeep Anurag Topno, Sadar CO Upendra Kumar, and Mufassil police station in-charge Ranjit Oraon arrived at the correctional home with additional forces to investigate the matter.
Preliminary findings indicate that the disturbance began on Tuesday evening while the juvenile inmates were playing.
A dispute arose among them, escalating into a violent confrontation.
Following the disorder and extensive vandalism, they fled the facility.
Authorities have launched a search operation to locate and apprehend the escaped juveniles.
