Jharkhand High Court complex.

The Jharkhand High Court has ordered a CBI probe into the investigation of Jharkhand Assembly appointment scam. The High Court gave its verdict on Monday after reserving the order on June 20.

Hearing a public interest litigation filed in the High Court regarding the Jharkhand Assembly recruitment scam the division bench of Acting Chief Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad and Justice Arun Kumar Rai gave the verdict.

It has been alleged that illegal appointments were made in the Assembly during the tenure of former Speakers Inder Singh Namdhari and Alamgir Alam.

Earlier the court had directed to submit the investigation report prepared by one-member judicial commission of Justice (Retd) Vikramaditya Prasad.

As many as 274 people were appointed during the tenure of Jharkhand's first Assembly Speaker Inder Singh Namdhari, while 324 people were appointed during the tenure of Speaker Alamgir Alam.

It was alleged that during the tenure of Inder Singh Namdhari, 70 per cent of people from one district were reinstated in the Assembly.

During the tenure of Alamgir Alam as Speaker of the Assembly, a case of money transaction in appointment came to light. The then Governor Syed Sibte Razi had ordered an inquiry.

At first, retired judge Justice Loknath Prasad investigated the matter. After that retired judge Justice Vikramaditya Prasad was given the responsibility of investigation. In 2018, Justice Vikramaditya Prasad submitted the investigation report to the then-Governor Draupadi Murmu (presently President). Murmu had sent the investigation report to the Assembly for action.

The Justice Vikramaditya Prasad Commission submitted the report to the Governor in the year 2018. Based on the report, the Governor had asked the Assembly Speaker to take action, but no action was taken on the commission's report. A second commission was formed to investigate that investigation report.
