A team of four members, led by Hedayatullah Khan, the chairman of the Jharkhand State Minority Commission (JSMC), has been formed to investigate the suspected mob lynching of Sheikh Tazuddin in the Seraikela-Kharswan district last December, officials confirmed on Sunday.
The commission acted after Sarfraz Hussain, spokesperson for the All India Minority Welfare Front, requested a judicial inquiry into the incident through a formal letter.
“We set up a four-member team on Saturday to look into the matter,” a senior commission official stated.
The team plans to visit Kapali on Monday to meet Tazuddin’s family and gather more information about the incident. Additionally, they will hold discussions with senior district officials at the Kapali Town Council auditorium to review the progress on the case.
Sheikh Tazuddin was severely injured on December 8 when an unidentified group allegedly attacked him in Sapra, under the Adityapur Police Station's jurisdiction. He passed away in a hospital about a week later due to his injuries.
JSMC Chairman Hedayatullah Khan mentioned that the commission had requested an action-taken report from the district’s superintendent of police (SP) on December 26 but has not yet received a reply.
SP Mukesh Kumar Lunayat stated that the sub-divisional police officer (Seraikela) is in charge of the investigation and is preparing a report. Meanwhile, four accused individuals have surrendered to the court.
The case remains under active investigation as officials continue to gather evidence and address the concerns raised by the commission and the victim’s family.
