In a major success in its ongoing campaign against Left-wing extremism in Jharkhand, police and security forces have arrested a five-lakh-rupee rewarded sub-zonal commander of the Jharkhand Jan Mukti Parishad (JJMP) along with three other members of the outfit in Gumla district.

The arrested insurgent has been identified as Ramdev Lohra alias Ramdev Oraon, a JJMP sub-zonal commander carrying a reward of Rs 5 lakh announced by the state government. Three other alleged active members of the outfit were also apprehended during the operation.

According to police, the operation was launched following a specific intelligence input that Ramdev Lohra and members of his squad were moving in the vicinity of Akashi and Jairagi villages under Dumri police station, allegedly with the intention of carrying out a major incident.

Acting swiftly on the intelligence, security forces formed a special operation team and launched a search operation in the area. During the operation, the team surrounded the suspected insurgents and apprehended Ramdev Lohra and three of his associates.

The other arrested persons have been identified as Arvind Nayak, an area commander from Kone village under Latehar police station; Muneshwar Singh of Kita Makka village under Jobang police station in Lohardaga district; and Jitendra Lohra, an active member of the outfit from Ujra village under Dumri police station in Gumla district.

A substantial cache of arms, ammunition and communication equipment was recovered from the arrested men, police said.

The recoveries include one AK-56 rifle along with a magazine, one SLR rifle, one semi-automatic rifle, one walkie-talkie and eight mobile phones, besides other items.

The arrests are being viewed as a significant breakthrough in the security forces' efforts to dismantle the JJMP's organisational network and curb extremist activities in the region.
