Jammu and Kashmir Police conducted extensive raids across multiple locations in the Kashmir Valley as part of their ongoing investigation into the activities of banned organisations, officials confirmed on Wednesday.
The searches took place over two days and targeted areas in Srinagar, Baramulla, and Anantnag. Authorities stated that the cases under investigation were registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and were linked to proscribed groups, including the Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference (Bhat Group), Jammu and Kashmir Muslim League (Masrat Alam Group), and Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (Shabir Shah Group).
Among the locations raided were two residences of former Hurriyat chief Abdul Gani Bhat—one in Baramulla and another in Wazir Bagh, Srinagar. Bhat leads the Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference (Bhat Group), which is a constituent of the Hurriyat Conference.
Authorities also carried out a search at the residence of incarcerated leader Shabir Ahmad Shah, who heads the Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party.
The police targeted several other key figures during the operation, including Tehreek-e-Hurriyat chief Masrat Alam Bhat, Ghulam Nabi Sumbji, Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat (alias Gugga), Ghulam Nabi Wagay, Feroz Ahmad Khan, Mohammad Nazir Khan, Hakeem Abdul Rashid, and Javaid Ahmad Munshi (alias Bilpapa).
Officials stated that these searches were conducted as part of an investigation into suspected members of these banned outfits and to further probe their alleged involvement in unlawful activities.
