Journalist Nalin Acharya leaves a lasting legacy

Nalin was known for his kindness, warmth, and for always being there for others in their happy and difficult moments. His long journalism career took him across Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, and Chandigarh. Everywhere he worked, people admired him for his dedication to journalism, and his selfless service to social and religious causes.

People from different walks of life gathered at the Rasam Kriya (last prayer) of Nalin Acharya, former President of the Chandigarh Press Club and active member of the Senior Journalists Forum. Their presence showed the deep respect and affection he had earned over the years.

 

Nalin was known for his kindness, warmth, and for always being there for others in their happy and difficult moments. His long journalism career took him across Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, and Chandigarh. Everywhere he worked, people admired him for his dedication to journalism, and his selfless service to social and religious causes.

 

He started his career in 1975 with his father, Editor Him Prabha and Shivalik Sandesh, in Shimla. Over nearly five decades, Nalin built a legacy that inspired many young journalists.

 

At the Chandigarh Press Club, where he served for over 30 years, including two terms as President, he played a key role in strengthening the institution. He rose from a modest media background to gain recognition on a larger stage, yet remained simple, humble and soft-spoken. Everyone who knew him agreed that his humility was his greatest strength.

 

During the ceremony, speakers remembered Nalin’s major contributions to both journalism and humanity. Many well-known personalities attended to pay their respects, including senior BJP leader Sanjay Tandon, former Union Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal, BJP leaders Vineet Joshi and Satyapal Jain, KK Sharda, Prem Dutt (BJP), Rajya Sabha MP Satnam Singh Sandhu, Congress leader HS Lucky, and several former mayors.

 

Many distinguished people from Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Delhi were also present, including Dr Yashpal Sharma (Head, Cardiology, PGI), Vimal Setia (Director, Public Relations), senior IAS officer VK Singh, Amit Arya (Vice Chancellor), Chandigarh Press Club President Saurabh Duggal, Jagtar Singh Dhuppi, AS Prashar, Balwant Takshak, Sukhbir S Bajwa, Avtar Singh, and many former club presidents, editors, journalists, and social workers.
