Ranjit Singh Jeeta Maur, a former international kabaddi player who later became a prominent real estate mogul and alleged drug lord, passed away due to a heart attack late last evening. He was rushed to a hospital in Jalandhar, where he was declared dead.
A native of Kala Sanghian village in Kapurthala, Jeeta Maur had been in poor health for the past few months, suffering from severe swelling in his legs that made mobility difficult. His transformation from a celebrated kabaddi player to a wealthy businessman saw him develop between 70 and 80 residential colonies across Punjab’s Doaba and Majha regions.
His extravagant lifestyle, which included a fleet of imported luxury cars, brought him into close circles with influential politicians and high-ranking police officials.
Jeeta Maur’s vast empire began to face setbacks in 2018 when he parted ways with his long-time business associate Charan Singh. Their fallout led to over 30 civil and criminal cases between them. His legal troubles escalated in February 2022 when the Special Task Force (STF) arrested him in connection with a drug-related case, naming 12 others based on a complaint filed by Charan Singh. The case also drew the attention of the Enforcement Directorate (ED), bringing his financial dealings under intense scrutiny.
On October 27, 2023, the Kapurthala Additional Sessions Court summoned several high-profile individuals in connection with his case, including Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) MLA Ganieve Majithia, the wife of former Punjab minister Bikram Majithia.
Jeeta Maur had moved to London during his school years, where he trained under his paternal uncle, Mahinder Singh Maur, a well-known kabaddi promoter. His impressive performances in the late 1990s earned him a significant fan following, with videos of his matches gaining widespread popularity on YouTube.
Although his wife and four sons remained settled in London, Jeeta Maur established multiple business ventures in Punjab, including Great Green Build India Pvt Ltd, GGB Royal Developers Pvt Ltd, RBR Real Estate Developers Pvt Ltd, and KBC Transport Pvt Ltd. His real estate holdings spanned hundreds of acres across various locations, including Sultanpur Lodhi, Nakodar, Lohian, Banga, Mukerian, Patti, Tarn Taran, Batala, and Pathankot.
Reports suggest that at least eight senior police officials, including IPS and PPS officers, were among his investors. Additionally, a former Congress MLA was named in a complaint alleging that Jeeta Maur gifted him a Rs 15 crore house and provided his son with a luxury car in return for business favours.
Investigations also pointed to significant financial irregularities, with crores of rupees allegedly received as remittances across 53 NRI accounts linked to him.
His sudden demise marks the end of a controversial chapter in Punjab’s criminal and business landscape, leaving behind a trail of legal battles and unanswered questions regarding his vast empire and high-profile connections.
