Train operations on the Kalka–Shimla narrow gauge route will be temporarily affected from July 11 to 15 as Northern Railways undertakes crucial bridge work. The girder of Bridge No. 800, located between Jatogh and Summer Hill stations, will be launched and de-launched during this period, resulting in the suspension of several train services.
Notably, eight trains running between Kalka and Shimla will either be cancelled, short-terminated, or start from an alternate station. During this time, services will run only up to Tara Devi station, which is about 6 km from Shimla.
The Northern Railways (Ambala Division) has officially issued a notification outlining the changes:
According to the notification, Train No. 52457 will leave from Kalka at 3.30 am and will reach the Tara Devi railway station at 8.04 am, Train No. 52458 will leave from Tara Devi at 11.33 am and reach Kalka at 4.15 pm, Train No. 52451 will leave from Kalka at 5.45 am and will reach Tara Devi at 10.10 am, Train No. 52452 will depart from Tara Devi at 5.57 pm and will reach Kalka at 10.15 pm, Train No. 52459 will leave from Kalka at 7 am and will reach Tara Devi at 11.20 am, Train No. 52460 will depart from Tara Devi at 4.34 pm and will reach Kalka at 8.50 pm, Train No. 52455 will depart Kalka at 11.55 pm and will reach Tara Devi at 4.25 pm and Train No. 52456 will leave from Tara Devi at 7.12 pm and will reach Kalka at 11.30 pm.
Trains which have been cancelled are Train No. 52453 (Kalka–Shimla), Train No. 52454 (Shimla–Kalka), Train No. 52445/52446 (Kalka-Shimla and Shimla-Kalka), Kalka-Shimla Mixed Special and Shimla-Kalka Mixed Special. Train No. 52451 will terminate at Tara Devi and its empty coach rake (ECR) will proceed to Jatogh for engine reversal. After examination, it will return as Train No. 52452 from Tara Devi to Kalka.
To address logistical needs, watering facilities will be arranged at Barog station, since Tara Devi lacks such provisions.
Passengers are advised to check the latest train schedules before traveling and to cooperate with railway staff as this important infrastructure upgrade is carried out.
