Outrage mounted across Jammu and Kashmir following the killing of two Village Defence Guards (VDGs) in the Kishtwar district.
The two guards were reportedly abducted from their homes and killed by militants on Thursday.
In response, security forces have launched a massive cordon and search operation to apprehend the attackers.
Condemnations poured in from political and government leaders.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha condemned the act in a post on X, stating, “No words are strong enough to condemn the heinous terrorist attack on VDG members in Kishtwar. I convey my heartfelt condolences to the families of brave sons martyred in this cowardly attack." He further assured, "We are firmly resolved to destroy all terror outfits & avenge this barbaric act."
Union Territory Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, alongside Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) President Farooq Abdullah, also condemned the attack.
In a statement, JKNC relayed, "JKNC President Dr Farooq Abdullah and VP & Chief Minister @OmarAbdullah have condemned the gruesome killing of two village defence guards in Kishtwar, namely Nazir Ahmad and Kuldeep Kumar, in a forest area.” They expressed that acts of “barbaric violence” obstruct the path to lasting peace in Jammu and Kashmir, extending thoughts and prayers to the families of the deceased.
Meanwhile, a separate encounter between security forces and militants continued in Sopore.
The region has witnessed heightened violence since October 18, with at least 19 people killed and 25 others injured, including militants, security personnel, civilians, and migrant workers from states like Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.
