The Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port in Kolkata will suspend all cargo and container handling operations for 12 hours from Sunday evening due to a forecasted cyclonic storm, officials stated.

 

Operations will cease from 6 pm on Sunday until 6 am on Monday, ensuring the safety of dock workers, port officials said.

 

Port chairperson Rathendra Raman chaired a meeting on Saturday to oversee preparedness for the impending cyclone's impact, spotlighting  the proactive measures and inter-departmental cooperation among port officials.

 

Railway operations in the port area will also halt during this time, officials confirmed.

 

The cyclone is anticipated to make landfall on Sunday night along the coasts of West Bengal and Bangladesh, with wind speeds of 110-120 km per hour, gusting up to 135 kmph, as per the weather office's forecast.
