A landslide struck the temporary shelters at the Rattle power project in Kishtwar district, triggering panic and forcing the administration to act swiftly and rescue five persons from the site, officials said.

The incident occurred in the Dhrabshala area when a landslide hit tin sheds used as washrooms at the Rattle power project, they said.

Five people were rescued and rushed to the hospital for treatment. Three of them were admitted to GMC Hospital in Doda, officials said.

Deputy Commissioner of Kishtwar, Pankaj Sharma, who monitored the operation and provided updates about the incident, said all five men were safe.
Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh, in a post on X, said he had spoken to DC Kishtwar Pankaj Sharma about the incident. “Must appreciate the district administration for taking prompt action and rescuing around five persons who could have otherwise been fatal victims of the landslide at the Rattle power project in the Dhrabshala area,” Singh wrote.

The people rescued from the landslide site were injured but are safe and are receiving the necessary medical treatment.

Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir’s weather misery continues across both divisions. Jammu has been hit hard by incessant rainfall, triggering flash floods and widespread destruction. A similar situation is now developing in Kashmir, where heavy rains have caused flooding in several low-lying areas in various districts.
Over 9,000 people have been evacuated from Budgam district alone, after floodwaters entered residential structures, forcing thousands to leave their homes.
