The Uttarkashi–Gangotri National Highway in Uttarakhand has been blocked after a landslide near Naluna, the state’s Department of Information and Public Relations said. Vehicular movement has been stopped as continuous landslides are making it difficult to restore the road.
In a post on X, Uttarakhand DIPR said, "The Uttarkashi Gangotri National Highway has been blocked due to a landslide near Naloona. Continuous landslides are causing delays in restoring smooth traffic on the highway. As a precaution, barricades have been set up to stop vehicles.”
On Saturday, District Magistrate Prashant Arya inspected the Yamunotri National Highway near Syanachatti after reports of damage to about 200 meters of road in Jungle Chatti. During the visit, he checked landslide-prone areas and directed departments to clear debris, repair the damaged stretch with wire crates, and make the road fit for movement as soon as possible.
Both the Gangotri and Yamunotri National Highways have been facing repeated disruptions due to heavy rainfall in Uttarkashi. Debris, stones, and trees have fallen on several parts of the routes, partially obstructing traffic.
The police said while debris was being cleared, traffic was stopped at safe points to avoid risk. On the Yamunotri route, a tree fell on the road near Gyanoti. Fire service teams and officials of the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (NHIDCL) were deployed to remove it. Further ahead, fresh debris blocked the highway completely.
"The Gangotri National Highway has been obstructed near Dharasu (old police station) due to stones and debris falling on the road. Work is underway to clear the route," the police had posted on X.
