Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, along with the members of the Indian delegation on a visit to Russia on Saturday, paid obeisance to the sacred relics of Mahatma Buddha, which were brought from India and enshrined at the Geden Sheddup Choikorling Monastery — the main Buddhist monastery in the Russian town of Elista, the capital of Kalmykia.

The event attended by monks, devotees, and officials was marked with traditional rituals and prayers symbolising the deep-rooted spiritual and cultural ties between India and the Buddhist community in Russia.

Speaking at the ceremony, the visiting dignitary expressed heartfelt reverence and said, “I pray to Lord Buddha to bless us all and strengthen the spiritual bond between our peoples.”

“The sacred relics’ enshrinement in Elista represents not only a moment of devotion but also a reaffirmation of India’s enduring commitment to sharing the universal message of peace, compassion, and harmony taught by Lord Buddha,” LG Sinha said.

Earlier on Friday, Sinha, along with the Indian delegation, departed for Russia, tasked to retrieve the sacred relics of the lord Buddha that are currently kept in the exhibition centre in the Russian Republic of Kalmykia.

The sacred relics have been showcased at the Geden Sheddup Choikorling Monastery, also known as the Golden Abode of Shakyamuni Buddha, a major Tibetan Buddhist centre inaugurated in 1996.

Sinha expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for facilitating this sacred mission.

In a post on X, Sinha said, “Leaving for Kalmykia, Russia, where I will lead the delegation to bring back holy relics of Lord Buddha after a week-long exposition. I sincerely thank the Hon’ble PM Shri @narendramodi Ji for this sacred opportunity.”
