LG Sinha meets injured at GMC Jammu, Rajnath Singh to visit later

LG Sinha said there are currently 16 injured people admitted to GMC Jammu.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha visited Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu on Sunday and met with the injured from the recent cloudburst in Kishtwar.


The Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, visited GMC Jammu on Sunday and met with the injured from the recent devastating cloudburst in Kishtwar that killed 65 people.


Speaking to reporters after the visit, LG Sinha said there are currently 16 injured people admitted to GMC Jammu. "Most of them are stable. I hope that all of them get well and go home soon.” He said that the cloudburst in Kishtwar was a tragic incident in which many people lost their lives. The administration is trying to trace the missing persons with all available resources.


“32 people are still missing. We are trying to find them. We are making arrangements for their re-entry," he said. He said that over 4.3 crore has been spent on the rescue operation that entered its 11th day on Sunday.


"We are deeply sorry for the families," he added. "It was a natural disaster. I think it caused a lot of destruction." When asked about the defence minister’s visit to Kishtwar, he said that Singh would be arriving. Yes, Rajnath Singh is coming today,” he added.

Sinha said that it was difficult to make any predictions. He stated that if the weather conditions were favourable, the visit to the affected area would proceed as planned. Otherwise, the visit would be limited to GMC Jammu.


Singh is likely to meet with victims and the relatives of those who lost their lives in the tragic incident on August 14. Singh will be arriving in Kishtwar later today. His visit is crucial, as the rescue and relief efforts, despite their intensity, have not been able to locate the missing 32 persons. The army, along with NDRF, SDRF, Police, and local volunteers, is working relentlessly to retrieve the dead bodies of the victims from the debris.
