Union Minister Giriraj Singh expressed dissatisfaction with the Ludhiana police's handling of a clash that erupted between two groups on Holi over playing DJ music.
He questioned why action was taken against only one group and warned that he would stage a sit-in outside the Ludhiana Police Commissioner's office if the other group was not also held accountable.
The altercation occurred in Ludhiana's Bihari Colony when a dispute over playing DJ music during Holi celebrations escalated into violence. Members of both sides hurled bricks, stones, and other objects at each other, resulting in injuries to two individuals. Following the incident, the police detained seven people.
During his visit to Ludhiana, Singh attended an event where he met a deputation from one of the groups involved in the clash. He then called the Ludhiana Police Commissioner to express his concerns, particularly questioning why police action was taken against only one faction while the other remained untouched.
Singh appeared to be referring to the group belonging to the Muslim community. He asserted that the initial attack came from that side, yet police, after reviewing CCTV footage, registered a case only against the other group. He warned that if those responsible were not arrested, he would have no choice but to sit on a protest at the police commissioner's office.
The Union Minister of Textiles, who is also an MP from Bihar's Begusarai, is currently on a two-day visit to Ludhiana. During his interactions with representatives from various textile organisations, he claimed that the central government had proposed setting up a mega textile plant worth ₹1,000 crore in Punjab.
However, he alleged that the Aam Aadmi Party-led state government rejected the offer, despite the project's potential to generate employment for two lakh people.
