A mild earthquake measuring 3.5 on the Richter scale struck Singrauli, Madhya Pradesh, on Thursday afternoon, as reported by the National Center for Seismology (NCS).
The tremor occurred at 3:10 pm IST, with the epicenter recorded at latitude 24.21°N and longitude 82.57°E, at a depth of 10 kilometers.
The NCS confirmed the earthquake's details on social media platform X, stating: "Earthquake of Magnitude: 3.5, Occurred on 26-03-25, 3:10 pm IST, Lat: 24.21°N & Long:82.57°E, Depth: 10Km, Location: Singrauli, Madhya Pradesh." Fortunately, no reports of significant damage or casualties have emerged so far.
Earlier in the day, a stronger 5.2-magnitude earthquake jolted Afghanistan at 3:10 pm IST. This seismic event, occurring at a depth of 180 kilometers, followed an earlier 4.6-magnitude tremor in the region, marking a series of aftershocks.
The National Center for Seismology noted that Afghanistan has experienced multiple quakes in recent days, including a 4.9-magnitude earthquake on March 21.
Seismic activity also affected Nepal, where a 4.5-magnitude earthquake struck the northwestern Humla district on March 26 at 7:44 PM local time. The epicenter was located in the Kalika area, approximately 425 kilometers northwest of Kathmandu. No significant damage or casualties have been reported in Nepal.
Further northeast, Tibet recorded a 5.5-magnitude earthquake in Tingri County at 6:27 pm. The tremors were felt in Kathmandu, Nepal, though no severe impacts have been reported.
Authorities in the affected regions are closely monitoring the ongoing seismic activity. The National Center for Seismology has advised residents in earthquake-prone areas to stay alert and prepared for possible aftershocks.
