The Maharashtra government has announced a relief package of ₹1,339 crore on Tuesday for farmers whose crops were damaged by heavy rains between June and August 2025.
Assessments of the damage have already been carried out, and the government confirmed that the funds will be paid directly into farmers' bank accounts. In an official notice, the government specified that the money should not be combined with any other relief funds and must be provided as a one-time payment for the season. To ensure transparency, a list of beneficiaries, along with the official order, will be published on district websites after the funds are distributed. However, assessments of agricultural damage from the recent rains in the Marathwada region are yet to be completed.
The announcement follows a period of heavy to very heavy rainfall across the Konkan and adjoining ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra between August 18 and August 21. At the time, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued several warnings.
The IMD had warned of squally weather with wind speeds reaching 45–55 km/h, gusting up to 65 km/h, along the South Konkan-Goa coasts and adjoining sea areas. Fishermen were advised not to venture out. Port warnings were also issued for the state's north and south regions, with the IMD predicting flooding in low-lying and urban areas and disruption to road, rail, air, and ferry transport. Red alerts were issued for certain districts in the western coastal region on August 18 and 19, followed by yellow alerts on August 20 and 21, before the weather conditions subsided.
