The Maharashtra government has introduced a new dress code for school teachers, banning T-shirts, jeans, and shirts with patterns or images.
Female teachers are encouraged to wear sarees or salwar suits, while male teachers are expected to wear trousers and shirts (tucked in).
Schools are given the freedom to select the colour for the dress code, with a preference for light-coloured shirts and dark trousers for male teachers.
Furthermore, the government has permitted teachers to use the prefix 'Tr' before their names, mirroring the practice of doctors and advocates. This dress code mandate extends to all educational institutions in the state, encompassing private, aided, and non-aided schools.
"The dress worn by teachers should be neat. The female teachers should wear sarees or dresses (salwar, churidar, kurta and dupatta), and male teachers can wear trousers and shirts (tucked in)," stated a government resolution (GR) issued by the School Education Department on March 15.
"Teachers are not allowed to wear t-shirts, jeans or any other shirt having designs or pictures," the GR said.
