Authorities are now investigating the incident. A key question is how the man managed to get into the middle of the tunnel without being detected.
Officials are working to identify him. His photograph has been circulated to police stations across Kolkata and surrounding districts. The tragic discovery did not cause any disruption to the metro service. Morning operations on the Blue Line, which runs from Dakshineswar to Sahid Khudiram station, continued as scheduled.
