In a major crackdown on insurgency, security forces arrested 10 militants affiliated with banned groups during coordinated operations in Manipur’s Imphal East and Imphal West districts, police confirmed on Sunday.

Among those detained were four operatives of the outlawed United National Liberation Front (UNLF–Pambei faction) and an associate of the suspects, picked up on Saturday from Wangkhei Thangapat Mapan in Imphal East. According to police, the group was actively involved in extortion and intimidation activities across the Imphal Valley.

In separate raids, security personnel apprehended a cadre of the proscribed People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK–Pro) from Lamphelpat in Imphal West district. Additionally, five members of the Kangleipak Communist Party (PWG) were arrested from various locations in Imphal East.

During a simultaneous search operation in Moltincham village of Kakching district, authorities seized a cache of arms and ammunition, including rifles, guns, and grenades, police sources said.

The latest operations come amid ongoing unrest in Manipur, where two years of ethnic violence have resulted in the deaths of over 250 people and the displacement of thousands.

Political instability continues to plague the state, with President’s Rule imposed on February 13 after the resignation of then Chief Minister N Biren Singh. The Manipur Legislative Assembly currently remains under suspended animation, according to a notification issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
