Manipur is reeling from shock following the gruesome murder of a nine-year-old girl in Churachandpur district, triggering widespread outrage and demands for justice.

 

The victim, identified as Mandeihkim, was found dead in the compound of a relief camp in Lanva TD block, Lingsiphai, in the early hours of Friday.

 

According to reports, she had gone missing from the camp on the evening of 20 March, prompting her family to launch a frantic search.

 

Authorities suspect that the minor may have been raped before being murdered.

 

"Reports indicate an injury mark on the child's neck, and bloodstains were discovered at the crime scene," officials stated.

 

The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination, and further investigations are underway.

The heinous crime has sparked condemnation from various local organisations, including the Young Vaiphei Association and the Zomi Mothers' Association.

 

The groups have called for a thorough probe into the matter and strict action against the perpetrators. 

 

“The culprits involved in this inhuman act must be booked,” the organisations stated, urging swift justice for the bereaved family.

 

The incident has sent shockwaves through the region, with public anger mounting over the safety of vulnerable individuals in conflict-ridden Manipur.

 

Activists have pressed the authorities to ensure transparency in the investigation and expedite legal proceedings against those responsible.

 

The police have assured that efforts are being made to identify and apprehend the assailant.

 

“We are treating this case with utmost seriousness, and every possible lead is being pursued,” an official said.

 

As calls for justice grow louder, citizens have also urged the state government to enhance security in relief camps and address the broader issue of lawlessness that has gripped Manipur in recent months.

 

The authorities have appealed for calm while assuring that no stone will be left unturned in delivering justice to Mandeihkim and her grieving family.
