In a deeply emotional turn of events, the identity of Air India crash victim Lamnunthem Singson has been officially confirmed through a DNA test, bringing a somber sense of closure to her grieving family and hometown of Kangpokpi in Manipur.
Authorities informed the family on Wednesday. Currently in Ahmedabad, the family is awaiting the completion of formalities to bring her remains home. Sources close to the family said preparations are underway to transport her body to Dimapur by Thursday morning, though flight details remain unconfirmed. Her remains are currently being held at a local hospital in Ahmedabad pending final documentation.
The confirmation has cast a shadow of mourning across Kangpokpi, where Lamnunthem — fondly known as "Neonu" by her mother — was a beloved Air India cabin crew member and a figure of inspiration for many in the community.
In response, local civil society organisations (CSOs) convened a joint meeting, deciding that the Kuki Students' Organisation (KSO), Sadar Hills, will lead the reception at Dimapur Airport. From there, her body will be escorted along National Highway 2 with honour and solemnity to her hometown.

The tribute will be joined by members of the Kuki Inpi Sadar Hills and the Kuki Women Union Sadar Hills, who plan to offer prayers and silent homage at her residence. The town authorities have also planned an official condolence ceremony in her memory.
Condolence banners and messages have already begun appearing across Kangpokpi District Headquarters, as CSOs, friends and residents prepare to pay their final respects to one of the district’s most cherished daughters.
Remembering Lamnunthem, a close friend from London shared a heartfelt memory of their shared dream to visit Old Trafford, the legendary home stadium of Manchester United— her favourite football club. “It’s a dream we will never fulfil now,” the friend said, overcome with grief.
As Kangpokpi awaits the return of its fallen daughter, the community is united in its resolve to honour her life with love, dignity and unwavering respec— ensuring that Lamnunthem "Neonu" Singson’s legacy lives on in the hearts she touched.
