The Indian Government has deployed 1.42 lakh personnel, including 50 additional paramilitary companies, to maintain law and order in Manipur, a state facing severe security concerns, officials said on Sunday.
Following escalating violence, particularly along the Indo-Myanmar border, security has been bolstered in the region. State security advisor Kuldiep Singh and Director General of Police, Manipur, Rajiv Singh, conducted a high-level assessment of the Moreh border town on Saturday.
The officials visited key areas, including the Integrated Check Post and ongoing border fencing projects led by the Border Roads Task Force (BRTF).
During the visit, a security meeting was held at the Inspection Bungalow, Moreh, attended by the district commissioner, superintendent of police, commandant of the 5th Assam Rifles, and other senior officials.
Both Kuldiep Singh and Rajiv Singh reassured their commitment to the safety of the region.
The deployment of additional forces has brought together over 1 lakh central forces and 42,000 state security personnel to secure the state’s volatile border areas.
Manipur, which has been in turmoil since May 3, 2023, according to the latest official record released by the government, has witnessed over 258 fatalities, including a number of security personnel, amid the ongoing unrest.
