Educational institutions across Manipur’s Imphal Valley and Jiribam district are set to reopen on Monday following a week-long closure due to prohibitory orders imposed amidst renewed violence, an official confirmed.
The closures had affected schools and colleges in Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Bishnupur, Kakching, and Jiribam.
The Directorate of Education (Schools) issued a directive stating, “Normal classes will resume for all schools of the state, government, government-aided, private, and central schools from November 25.”
In a parallel announcement, the Higher and Technical Education Department ordered, “It is hereby ordered that all government educational institutions/government-aided colleges under the Higher and Technical Educational Department, including state universities, shall resume classes from November 25.”
Despite the reopening of educational institutions, the Manipur government on Saturday extended the suspension of mobile internet services in seven districts for an additional two days.
The suspension, first imposed on 16 November following violent clashes, aims to prevent the spread of inflammatory content and maintain public order.
The affected districts include Imphal West, Imphal East, Kakching, Bishnupur, Thoubal, Churachandpur, and Kangpokpi. Authorities noted that the fragile security situation necessitated the continuation of the measure.
