Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Tuesday announced an ex gratia of ₹5 lakh from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund for the family of Sukhwinder Kaur, who died from injuries sustained in a recent Pakistani drone attack in Ferozepur district.
Expressing deep sorrow over the tragic loss, CM Mann said, “Our government stands firmly with her family during this time of immense pain, and we are committed to providing all possible support to help them cope with this devastating loss.”
In addition, Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora announced a financial aid of ₹2 lakh to further assist the family during this difficult period.
Sukhwinder Kaur, a resident of Khai Ke village, had been critically injured in the drone attack that occurred on May 11. She was undergoing treatment at Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) in Ludhiana but succumbed to her injuries early Tuesday morning. Her husband, Lakhwinder Singh, who also suffered burn injuries in the incident, is undergoing treatment.
Pakistan resorted to cross-border shelling along the western border after India carried out Operation Sindoor in retaliation for the Pahalgam attack. Border villages bore the brunt of it. In response to the cross-border shelling and drone attack, India launched a coordinated attack and damaged radar infrastructure, communication centres and airfields across 11 airbases in Pakistan.
