A second-year Government Medical College student in Patiala was allegedly stabbed to death by unidentified persons late on Monday night, officials said.
The investigators have turned their focus on a suspect allegedly belonging to the victim’s village.
The deceased has been identified as Kamaldeep Kumar Mittal, a resident of Bareta village in Mansa district.
According to officials, the case came to light after the victim stopped responding to calls from his family, relatives, and friends.
The relative informed local guardians, who then approached the police and alerted them about the incident.
Senior police officers, along with teams of forensic and other investigating officials, said Kamaldeep’s body was found lying in a pool of blood at his rented accommodation.
A senior official said, “We are probing the case. We suspect the role of another person from the same village.”
“The victim’s body had multiple stab wounds around the neck which resulted in loss of blood, killing him inside the premises,” the official added.
Police said an FIR has been registered and further investigation is ongoing.
