Incessant rainfall in Meghalaya over the past few days has claimed two lives and affected over 3,000 people, the Meghalaya State Disaster Management Authority (MSDMA) reported on Tuesday.
The victims were identified as Probino Warbah, 48, of Tynring Village in East Khasi Hills, and Kantly Maram, 49, of Nongkroh Rambrai village in West Khasi Hills.
Warbah drowned on June 10, while Maram was struck by lightning on June 12, according to MSDMA officials.
Continuous rainfall since June 10 has affected more than 3,037 people across 42 villages in six districts.
All districts have been instructed to activate district Incident Response Teams (IRT), keep District Emergency Operation Centres (DEOC) operational 24x7, issue public advisories, and initiate immediate relief measures.
