Two security personnel sustained injuries during an ongoing encounter with militants at Kulnar Bazipora in Bandipora district of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday, officials said.
The gunfight erupted after security forces launched a cordon-and-search operation based on intelligence reports about the presence of militants in the area. The hiding militants opened fire, triggering a fierce exchange.
“Two police personnel were injured in the firing by militants,” the officials confirmed.
The operation comes a day after the arrest of four suspected Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) associates from Bandipora. “Arms and ammunition were recovered from their possession during the search,” a senior police officer stated.
In a separate incident, a soldier of the elite Para Special Forces was killed and two others injured during a gun battle in the Dudu-Basantgarh area of Udhampur district. The action unfolded during a search operation carried out by the Army’s Romeo Force after receiving inputs about militant presence in the region.
Paying tribute to the fallen soldier, the Army's Jammu-based White Knight Corps posted on X: “GOC (General Officer Commanding), White Knight Corps, and all ranks salute brave-hearted Havildar Jhantu Ali Shaikh of 6 PARA SF, who made the supreme sacrifice during a counterterror operation.
His indomitable courage and the valour of his team will never be forgotten. We stand in solidarity with the bereaved family in this moment of grief.”
The injured personnel were immediately evacuated to a nearby hospital for treatment. Authorities said the operation in Bandipora was ongoing, and further details were awaited at the time of filing this report.
