Punjab Police on Monday apprehended a minor boy for allegedly raping and blackmailing a 16-year-old girl in Hoshiarpur district, officials said.
The boy allegedly recorded an obscene video of the victim and used it to blackmail her, they said. He was arrested after a complaint was registered by the girl’s mother on Sunday, the police said.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the two had become friends on Snapchat, after which they exchanged messages regularly through the social media app. The accused is said to be a senior to the Class 11 girl at a private academy.
The victim’s testimony revealed that the accused often met her near the academy and had asked her for money. On December 15 last year, he allegedly took the girl on his motorcycle to a house, claiming it belonged to his grandmother, where he allegedly raped her.
He allegedly recorded an obscene video of the girl and threatened to make it viral on social media if she reported the matter to the police or law enforcement agencies. The girl recently disclosed the alleged incident to her mother, following which a complaint was registered, they said.
